We sincerely welcome Dr. Abdullah A. Shaito from the Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Qatar University, Doha, Qatar, to join the Editorial Board of Advances in Complementary and Integrative Medicine. His current research interests include the therapeutic use of medicinal plants. Dr. Shaito’s Lab performs evidence-based research on the efficacy and possible side effects of herbal remedies. Their ultimate goal is to uncover the mechanisms of action of these plant preparations and the translation of novel plant-based therapeutics from the bench to the bedside. Mechanisms they study include inhibition of inflammation, inhibition of oxidative stress, inhibition of metastasis, among others. These mechanisms are studied in the context of several diseases like cardiovascular disease and its risk factors (Diabetes, Obesity, Dyslipidemia, etc.), neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and recently COVID-19. We sincerely welcome Dr. Remko van Lutterveld from the Brain Research and Innovation Centre of the Ministry of Defence and Department of Psychiatry, University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands, to join the Editorial Board of Advances in Complementary and Integrative Medicine. Remko van Lutterveld has been working as a Senior Researcher at the Brain Research and Innovation Centre since September 2019. He obtained his doctorate from the University Medical Center Utrecht on cognitive neuroscientific research into auditory verbal hallucinations (“voice hearing”) in people with and without psychiatric disorders. In 2014, he went to study mindfulness and meditation at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts as a post-doctoral researcher and later as a Senior Researcher. From 2018 to 2019, he worked as an Investigator at the Mindfulness Center at Brown University in Rhode Island. His research focuses on military mental health, neuroimaging, and meditation. Dr. Theophilus I. Emeto completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Medical Physiology from the University of Calabar, where he defined prediction formulae for lung function parameters in Nigerian children aged 6 to 16 years. He graduated with Distinction in MSc Immunology and Allergy from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2007 where he investigated the effect of the Major House Dust Mite allergen Der p 1 on T-regulatory and Th17 cells in allergic asthma. He completed his MBiostatistics from the The University of Queensland, and the Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia where he worked on a project assessing the exploratory and analytical methods employed in longitudinal clinical trials with incomplete primary outcome data. He completed his PhD focused on understanding the mechanism underpinning the pathology of the weakening human aorta, and the development of a drug-based therapy for abdominal aortic aneurysm at James Cook University in 2013. Previously, he worked as a Research Scientist on various clinical trials analysing cellular and humoral immune response of patients treated with the therapeutic cancer vaccine TroVax® (MVA-5T4) with Oxford BioMedica UK, and as a Research Assistant on projects employing combined immunotherapy and chemotherapy for neuroblastoma at the world class Tenovus Research Laboratories, University of Southampton, UK.
